A.G. Mehta was a prominent Ugandan politician and barrister, born on February 1, 1927. As the eldest son of an Indian industrialist, he made history as the first Asian-Indian mayor of Kampala in 1968. He played a significant role in Ugandan politics, closely collaborating with the first prime minister, Milton Obote, during the quest for independence. Notably, Mehta contributed to the drafting of Uganda's first Constitution during the 1961 Uganda Constitutional Conference. His efforts were instrumental in shaping the political landscape of Uganda until his untimely death on March 10, 1969.
