A. Brian Deer (1945 – January 12, 2019) was a Mohawk librarian from Kahnawake, notable for developing the Brian Deer Classification System (BDCS), which articulates Indigenous knowledge structures. His work began in the late 1970s with the National Indian Brotherhood in Canada, and he later adapted the system for various libraries, including the Xwi7xwa Library at the University of British Columbia. Despite early health challenges, Deer made significant contributions to library sciences before passing away at the age of 74.
