Russell, Kentucky is a small town located in Greenup County, near the Ohio River and the border with Ohio. It experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cool, mild winters. The town was founded in 1835 and named after William Russell, a local farmer and politician. It has a rich history and heritage, with a number of historic buildings and sites, including the Russell Theatre, which was built in 1938 and is one of the oldest operating movie theaters in Kentucky.
