Ocala, also known as Okala, is a city in central Florida located at the junction of I-75 and US-27. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Ocala was originally inhabited by the Timucua Native American tribe. The city was founded in 1846 and named after the Timucua word for "large hammock". Ocala is known for its horse farms and is home to the Florida Horse Park.
