Ladan is a village in the Chernihiv Oblast (province) of northern Ukraine, approximately 50 kilometers northeast of the city of Chernihiv. The village is situated on the banks of the Ladanka River, a tributary of the Desna River. The climate in Ladan is temperate continental, with warm summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit), while the average temperature in January is -6 degrees Celsius (21 degrees Fahrenheit). The village has a long history, dating back to the 12th century. It was first mentioned in written records in 1147. Ladan was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the 14th to the 16th century, and then part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth until the 18th century. In 1793, Ladan was annexed by the Russian Empire. After the collapse of the Russian Empire in 1917, Ladan was part of the Ukrainian People's Republic and then the Soviet Union. Since 1991, Ladan has been part of independent Ukraine.
