Bitlis, also known as Badlis, is a city in eastern Turkey, situated at the foothills of the Bitlis Mountains, approximately 38°24'N 42°06'E. The city has a humid continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Historically, Bitlis was an important center of Armenian culture and was home to a large Armenian population until the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Today, the city is predominantly Kurdish and is known for its rich cultural heritage, including traditional crafts, music, and cuisine.
