Khān Shaykhūn is a city in Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria. It is located about 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of Aleppo and 50 kilometers (31 miles) west of Hama. The city has a population of about 50,000 people. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Khān Shaykhūn is known for its agricultural products, including olives, grapes, and wheat. The city has a long history, dating back to the Roman period. It was an important center of trade and commerce during the Middle Ages. In the 16th century, the city was captured by the Ottoman Turks. It remained under Ottoman rule until the early 20th century, when it was occupied by the French. Khān Shaykhūn became part of Syria after the country gained independence in 1946.
