The municipality has a tropical climate, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C. Ciudad Arce has a rich history and heritage, dating back to the pre-Columbian period when it was inhabited by the Lenca people. The municipality was founded in 1575 by Spanish colonists and was named after Archbishop Pedro Cortés y Larraz. Ciudad Arce is known for its colonial architecture, including the Church of San Juan Bautista, which was built in the 17th century.
