Svetlyy is a town in Saratov Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Volga and Yeruslan rivers. It has a humid continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The town was founded in 1787 as Tatishchevo by Count Ivan Ivanovich Shuvalov, who named it after his father-in-law, Vasily Nikitich Tatishchev. In 1960, the town was renamed Svetlyy, meaning "bright" or "light".
