Balakhna is a city in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, located on the Volga River, 30 km north of Nizhny Novgorod. The city has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. It was founded in 1474 and was an important center of the salt industry in the 16th and 17th centuries. Balakhna is home to several historical and architectural monuments, including the Church of the Resurrection (1680), the Church of the Holy Trinity (1723), and the Nikolsky Cathedral (1824).
