Chekalin, a city in Tula Oblast, Russia, is located at the confluence of the Oka and Upa rivers, 180 kilometers south of Moscow. The city has a humid continental climate, with warm summers and cold winters. Chekalin was first mentioned in chronicles in 1147 as Dikhvin. In the 14th century, it became known as Likhvin. In 1777, it was renamed Chekalin in honor of the Russian statesman Alexei Chekalin. Chekalin is home to several historical and cultural landmarks, including the Church of the Assumption (17th century), the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin (18th century), and the Chekalin Museum of Local Lore.
