It has a temperate continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The city was founded in 1765 as Bal'tser, a German colony, and was renamed Krasnoarmeysk in 1920. It has a rich cultural heritage, including a German Lutheran church, a Russian Orthodox church, and a museum dedicated to the history of the city.
