Matveyev Kurgan is a town in Rostov Oblast, Russia, located on the Mius River, 56 kilometers (35 mi) northeast of Taganrog. It has a population of 42,844 (2021 Census). The town was founded in 1774 as a Cossack settlement and named after the nearby Matveyev Kurgan hill. The town has a humid continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters.
