Brekstad, also known as Brekkstad, is a town in the municipality of Ørland in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located at the mouth of the Bjugnfjorden on the Fosen peninsula. The town has a population of about 2,000 people and is the administrative center of Ørland municipality. Brekstad has a long and rich history, dating back to the Viking Age. The town was first mentioned in written sources in the 14th century. In the 16th century, Brekstad became a trading center and a port for the export of fish and timber. The town was granted municipal status in 1838. Brekstad is located in a region with a mild climate and abundant rainfall.
