The city's climate is tropical, with average temperatures ranging from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius (75 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit) throughout the year. Tuxtla Gutiérrez has a rich history dating back to the pre-Columbian era, when it was inhabited by the Zoque people. The city was founded by the Spanish in 1560 and named after the Spanish conquistador Diego de Mazariegos. Tuxtla Gutiérrez played an important role in the Mexican Revolution and is home to a number of historical and cultural landmarks, including the Cathedral of San Marcos, the Museum of Chiapas, and the ZooMAT.
