Martaban, also known as Moktama, is a town in Myanmar located at the confluence of the Salween and Thanlwin rivers. The town has a tropical climate with an average temperature of 27°C (80°F) and receives an average of 2,500 mm (98 in) of rainfall per year. Martaban has a rich history dating back to the 6th century and was once a major port and trading center. The town is home to several historical sites, including the Shwedagon Pagoda and the Mahamuni Buddha.
