Fiesole, Tuscany, Italy, also known as Faesulae, is a town located on a hilltop overlooking Florence, with an elevation of 290 meters. The town enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Fiesole has a rich history, dating back to the Etruscan period in the 7th century BC. It was conquered by the Romans in the 3rd century BC and became a Roman municipium in 90 BC. In the Middle Ages, Fiesole was a Guelph stronghold and was besieged by the Ghibellines on several occasions. The town was finally conquered by Florence in 1254. Fiesole is home to a number of historical and cultural attractions, including the Etruscan walls, the Roman amphitheater, and the Cathedral of San Romolo.
