The climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers and cool winters. Garbagnate Milanese was first mentioned in a document in 998 AD. In the Middle Ages, it was a fief of the Archbishops of Milan. In the 16th century, it was acquired by the Borromeo family. The Borromeos built a castle in Garbagnate Milanese, which is now a museum. The town is also home to the Church of San Giovanni Battista, which was built in the 15th century.
