Az Zubayr, Iraq is a city located in southern Iraq, approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Basra. The city has a hot desert climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Az Zubayr has a rich history dating back to the 7th century, when it was founded by Zubayr ibn al-Awwam, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad. The city was a major center of Islamic scholarship and culture during the Abbasid Caliphate. Today, Az Zubayr is a modern city with a population of over 200,000 people. The city is home to a number of historical sites, including the Zubayr Mosque, which is said to be the oldest mosque in Iraq.
