Chengalpattu, formerly known as Chingleput, is a town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated on the banks of the Palar River, about 60 kilometers southwest of Chennai, the state capital. The town has a tropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. It receives an average of 800 millimeters of rainfall annually. Chengalpattu has a rich history and heritage. It was founded in the 16th century by the Vijayanagara Empire. The town was later ruled by the Marathas, the Mughals, and the British. Chengalpattu is home to several historical monuments, including the Chingleput Fort, the Chengalpattu Palace, and the Chengalpattu Jain Temple.
