Balástya is a village in Csongrád county, Hungary, with a population of 3,612 as of 2015. It is located in the southern part of the country, close to the border with Serbia. The village has a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and cold winters. Balástya was first mentioned in 1247, and it was destroyed by the Mongols in 1241. It was rebuilt in the 14th century, and it became a market town in the 15th century. The village was occupied by the Ottoman Turks from 1541 to 1686. After the Ottoman occupation, Balástya became a prosperous market town. The village has a rich cultural heritage, including a number of historical buildings and monuments.
