Mezőberény is a town in Békés county, Hungary. It is located in the Great Hungarian Plain, on the Berettyó River. The town has a population of around 10,000 people. The climate is continental, with hot summers and cold winters. Mezőberény was first mentioned in 1214. It was destroyed by the Mongols in 1241, but was rebuilt by the Hungarians in the 13th century. The town was occupied by the Turks from 1552 to 1686. After the Turkish occupation, Mezőberény became a prosperous market town. In the 19th century, the town became a center of the Hungarian Protestant movement. Mezőberény is home to several historical buildings, including the Reformed Church, which was built in the 15th century.
