Amapala, a municipality in the Valle department of Honduras, is located on the Gulf of Fonseca at the southern tip of the country. The municipality has a tropical climate with an average temperature of 27°C (81°F) throughout the year. Amapala was founded in 1869 as a port city and served as the capital of Honduras from 1876 to 1880.
