Holthusen is a municipality in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is located in the southern part of the district, about 10 km (6 mi) southwest of Ludwigslust. The municipality has a population of about 1,000 people and covers an area of about 10 km2 (4 sq mi). The weather in Holthusen is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from -1°C (30°F) in January to 18°C (64°F) in July. The municipality has a long history, dating back to the 13th century. It was once part of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, and later the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. After the Second World War, Holthusen became part of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Since the reunification of Germany in 1990, Holthusen has been part of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The municipality is home to several historical buildings, including the Church of St. Mary and the manor house of Holthusen.
