Hengyang, Hunan, China, is located in the southern part of the province, on the banks of the Xiang River. The city has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Hengyang has a long history, dating back to the Qin dynasty (221-206 BC). It was an important military and commercial center during the Song dynasty (960-1279) and was the capital of Hunan province from 1949 to 1954.
