Fort Stewart, Georgia, is a United States Army post located in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 45 miles southwest of Savannah. The post encompasses over 280,000 acres of land and is home to the 3rd Infantry Division. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The area was originally inhabited by Native Americans, and the fort was established in 1940 to train troops for World War II. It has a rich military history and heritage, having been used as a training ground for numerous units and serving as a major deployment center during the Cold War.
