Olton, Texas, is a city located in the southern part of the High Plains of Texas, approximately 120 miles (190 kilometers) southwest of Amarillo and 150 miles (240 kilometers) northeast of Lubbock. The city has a population of about 2,200 people and is known for its cotton farming and oil production. The climate in Olton is semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius), while the average temperature in January is 35 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius). The city was founded in 1909 by the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railway, and was named after Charles Olton, a railroad official.
