Friona, Texas, is a city located in Parmer County, Texas, United States, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 385 and State Highway 194. It is situated in the High Plains region of the Texas Panhandle, approximately 100 miles (160 km) southwest of Amarillo and 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Clovis, New Mexico. Friona has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold winters. The city was founded in 1906 as a railroad town and was named after the wife of a railroad official. It is known for its agriculture, particularly its cotton and wheat production, and is home to the Friona Star Windmill Museum, which features a collection of historic windmills.
