Carlsbad is a city in southeastern New Mexico, United States. It is located in the Chihuahuan Desert, at the confluence of the Pecos River and the Black River. The city has a population of approximately 25,000 people. Carlsbad was founded in 1888 as a railroad town. It is now a major center for the potash industry. The city is also home to Carlsbad Caverns National Park, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Mexico. The climate in Carlsbad is hot and dry, with an average temperature of 64 degrees Fahrenheit. The city receives an average of 12 inches of rainfall per year.
