Sublette, Kansas, is a small town located in Haskell County in southwestern Kansas, at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 160 and K-23. The town experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. Sublette was founded in 1887 as a stop on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway and was named after William Sublette, a fur trader and explorer. The town has a rich heritage, with many historic buildings and sites, including the Sublette Opera House, which was built in 1888 and is still in use today.
