The city is known for its rolling hills, which are covered in trees and vegetation. The city has a Mediterranean climate, with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The city was founded in 1957, and was originally a part of Rancho Palos Verdes. The city was incorporated in 1964. The city is home to a number of parks and recreation areas, including the Rolling Hills Country Club and the Rolling Hills Estates Civic Center. The city is also home to a number of schools, including the Rolling Hills Estates Elementary School and the Rolling Hills Estates Middle School.
