It has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The city was founded in 1854 during the California Gold Rush and is named after Orville C. Pratt, one of the city's founders. Oroville has a rich history and heritage, including the Oroville Dam, which is the tallest earthen dam in the United States.
