Monrovia, California, known locally as Monrovija, is a city located in the San Gabriel Valley, approximately 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The city enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Monrovia's history dates back to the 18th century, when it was part of the Spanish Rancho Azusa. In 1885, the city was incorporated and named after William Monroe, a local landowner. Monrovia's heritage is reflected in its historic buildings, including the Monrovia Library and the Monrovia Historical Museum.
