Maxwell is a small unincorporated community in Colusa County, California, United States. It is located at 39°16′34″N 122°11′29″W, approximately 12 miles (19 km) west of Colusa, the county seat. The town was founded in 1867 by George Maxwell, a rancher from Kentucky. Maxwell has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The town is home to several historic buildings, including the Maxwell Hotel, which was built in 1868 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
