El Segundo is a coastal city in southwest Los Angeles County, California, United States, with a population of approximately 17,000. The city is situated at the southern end of Santa Monica Bay, about 20 miles (32 km) southwest of downtown Los Angeles. El Segundo has a mild Mediterranean climate, with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The city's history dates back to the 18th century, when it was part of the Spanish land grant Rancho San Pedro. El Segundo was incorporated as a city in 1917.
