New Cumberland, Pennsylvania is a borough located in Cumberland County, United States. It is situated on the west bank of the Susquehanna River, across from the city of Harrisburg. The borough has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. New Cumberland was founded in 1792 by General James Potter and was named after the Duke of Cumberland. It was originally a farming community, but later became a center of industry, with a number of factories and mills located in the borough. Today, New Cumberland is a residential community with a population of around 7,000 people.
