Du Bois is a borough in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located at the confluence of the Sandy Lick Creek and the Susquehanna River, approximately 100 miles (160 km) northeast of Pittsburgh. The borough has a humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. Du Bois was founded in 1812 by John Du Bois, a French-American fur trader. The borough was originally known as "Sandy Lick" but was renamed in 1826 in honor of its founder. Du Bois played an important role in the American Civil War, as it was a major supply center for the Union Army. The borough is also home to the Du Bois Area Historical Society, which preserves the history and heritage of the community.
