Castle Shannon is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States, with a population of 8,311 as of the 2020 census. The borough is located about 6 miles (9.7 km) southwest of downtown Pittsburgh, on the south bank of the Ohio River. Castle Shannon has a humid continental climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The borough was founded in 1788 by John Neville, a Revolutionary War veteran. The name "Castle Shannon" is derived from the name of a castle in County Cork, Ireland.
