Girard, Ohio, is a city located in Trumbull County, approximately 10 miles northwest of Youngstown. The city has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Girard was founded in 1800 by John Young and was originally known as Pleasant Valley. The city's name was changed to Girard in 1812 in honor of Stephen Girard, a wealthy Philadelphia merchant and philanthropist. Girard has a rich industrial history, having been home to several steel mills and other manufacturing facilities. Today, the city is a diverse community with a strong sense of history and heritage.
