Moriches, New York, United States is a hamlet in Suffolk County on the south shore of Long Island. The hamlet is located at the east end of Moriches Bay and is bordered by the villages of East Moriches and Center Moriches. The weather in Moriches is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The area was originally inhabited by the Native American Shinnecock tribe. In the 17th century, English settlers arrived and established a community called "Moriches". The name "Moriches" is derived from the Shinnecock word "Moriches" meaning "place of the chiefs".
