The village is situated in the Hudson Valley, on the east bank of the Hudson River. The weather in Fairview is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The village was founded in 1788 by Quakers and was originally known as Quaker Hill. The name was changed to Fairview in 1854. The village has a rich history and heritage, with many historic buildings and sites.
