Brentwood is a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. It is located in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Portsmouth and 30 miles (48 km) north of Boston. The town has a population of 4,349 (2020 census) and covers an area of 23.5 square miles (61 km2). Brentwood is known for its historic buildings, scenic landscapes, and proximity to the coast. The town was first settled in 1638 and was originally known as "Brenton's Farm." It was officially incorporated in 1742 and named after Brentwood, Essex, England. Brentwood has a humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. The town is home to several historic sites, including the Brentwood Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
