Burnsville is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States, located 15 miles (24 km) south of downtown Minneapolis. It has a population of 60,306 (2020) and is the 11th largest city in Minnesota. The city was founded in 1858 by Irish immigrants and named after William Burns, an early settler. Burnsville is known for its parks, trails, and lakes, and is home to the Minnesota Zoo and the Mall of America. The city has a humid continental climate with hot summers and cold winters.
