The city has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Its history dates back to the early 19th century when it was known as Halfway House, a stopping point for travelers on the Chicago Turnpike. The city was officially incorporated in 1968 and has since grown into a thriving community with a diverse population and a strong economy.
