The town was renamed "Hanson" in 1820 in honor of John Hanson, the first President of the United States under the Articles of Confederation. Hanson has a rich history and heritage, and is home to several historic sites, including the John Alden House, the oldest surviving house in Massachusetts, and the First Parish Church, which was built in 1727.
