The climate in Sergeant Bluff is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The city was founded in 1853 by Sergeant William Thompson, a veteran of the Mexican-American War. Sergeant Bluff is home to the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District, which serves students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The city also has a public library, a museum, and a variety of parks and recreational facilities.
