Higganum, Connecticut is a small town located on the Connecticut River in Middlesex County, approximately 20 miles southeast of Hartford. The town has a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Higganum was founded in 1662 and was originally known as Pettipaug. The town was renamed in 1832 after Higganum, Massachusetts, the hometown of one of its early settlers. Higganum has a rich history and heritage, and is home to several historic buildings and landmarks, including the Higganum Burying Ground, which dates back to 1662, and the Haddam Swing Bridge, which was built in 1908.
