Marlinton is a town in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, United States. It is located at the confluence of the Greenbrier and Gauley rivers, in the Allegheny Mountains. The town was founded in 1749 by John Marlin, a German immigrant. It was originally known as Marlin's Bottom, but the name was later changed to Marlinton. The town is home to the Pocahontas County Opera House, which is the oldest continuously operating opera house in West Virginia. The town also has a number of historic buildings, including the Pocahontas County Courthouse and the Marlinton Presbyterian Church. The weather in Marlinton is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cool, dry winters.
