Mount Vernon is a city in Franklin County, Texas, United States, located at the intersection of U.S. Highways 37 and 67, approximately 100 miles (160 km) northeast of Dallas. The city has a population of 2,662 as of the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1842 and named after George Washington's estate, Mount Vernon. The city is home to a number of historical sites, including the Franklin County Courthouse, which was built in 1882 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
