South Charleston, Ohio, is a small town located in the eastern part of the state, at the intersection of U.S. Route 40 and State Route 32. It has a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The town was founded in 1816 by a group of settlers from Virginia and was originally known as Charleston. In 1833, the town was renamed South Charleston to distinguish it from the larger city of Charleston, West Virginia.
